Township of Essa Council appoints various members of the community to assist the municipality in sitting on many committees and boards.

| Essa Public Library Board |
If you have an interest in literacy, lifelong learning and cultural programs, we invite you to consider serving on the Essa Public Library Board. The Library Board is comprised of seven volunteers from the community, a member of Council and the CEO/Chief Librarian. The Board meets on the fourth Monday of each month, 10 times a year. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are approximately 2 hours in length. Members receive an honorarium of $50.00 per meeting.

| Accessibility Advisory Committee |
If you have an interest in taking an active role in creating a barrier-free Township, we invite you to consider serving on the Accessibility Advisory Committee. The Ontarians with Disabilities Act requires that the majority of committee members be persons with disabilities. This committee meets four times per year. Meetings commence at 1:00 p.m. and are approximately two hours in length. Members receive an honorarium of $50.00 per meeting.

If you have an interest in land use, planning, land severance and minor variances, we invite you to consider serving on the Committee of Adjustment. This Committee is comprised of five volunteers from the community with administrative assistance from the Planning and Development Department. The Committee meets monthly at the call of the Chair. The meetings are approximately two hours in length. Members receive an honorarium of $85.00 per meeting, and $40.00 for attending site visits.

| Economic Development Committee |
If you have an interest in promoting growth in Essa's commercial and industrial sectors while also supporting existing business, we invite you to consider serving on the Economic Development Committee. The committee is comprised of four volunteers from the community, one representative from CFB Borden and one member of Council, with administrative assistance from the Planning and Development Department. This committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and are approximately two hours in length. Members receive an honorarium of $60.00 per meeting.

The Township of Essa has recently formed a Healthy Community Committee. The purpose of this committee is to advise Council on ways and/or opportunities that the municipality can utilize to promote a healthier community for all residents to enjoy (ie: planning for trails, sidewalks, parks and public spaces, buying locally grown or raised foods, and many more aspects of creating a "healthier community").

If you have an interest in recreation, we invite you to consider serving on the Parks and Recreation Committee. This committee is comprised of five volunteers from the community, one member of Council with administrative assistance from the Recreation Coordinator. This committee meets at the call of the Chair (approximately four to ten times per year). Meetings commence at 5:30 p.m., and are approximately two hours in length.

| Thornton-Cookstown Trail Committee |
If you have an interest in the Trans Canada Trail System, we invite you to consider serving on the Thornton-Cookstown Trail Committee. The Trail Committee is comprised of volunteers from the community and one member of Council, with administrative assistance from the Recreation Coordinator. This committee meets approximately four times per year, at the call of the Chair. The meetings are approximately two hours in length.

If you have a background in negotiations, arbitration and fencing issues, we invite you to consider serving as a fence-viewer. A team of three fence-viewers respond to calls from the Clerk's Office to investigate complaints in accordance with the Line Fences Act. Guided by the Statutory Powers Procedure Act and the Line Fences Act, fence-viewers respond to situations regarding the placement of fences and also where a tree from either property falls on the line fence. Fence-viewers receive an honorarium of $50.00 per occurrence.

If you have a background in the agricultural sector, we invite you to consider serving as a Livestock Evaluator. Livestock Evaluators respond to the loss of livestock by farmers in the Township to determine the value of claim to be awarded, based on the evidence presented in accordance with the Livestock, Poultry and Honey Bee Protection Act. Livestock Evaluators receive an honorarium of $50.00 per evaluation.
